David Espinosa

 

Founder

 

David grew up in Lima, Peru, where as a child, he studied Afro-Peruvian dance and learned salsa on the streets of Peru. He moved to Canada in 2007 and continued his dance and musical education by studying West African percussion under the supervision of Guinean Djembefolas and Griots.

In 2011, David started his Kizomba & Semba training with local artists. From there, he further polished his style by travelling to France, Spain, England, the Netherlands and Portugal and trained with world renowned Angolan, Cabo Verdian and Guinean Bissau dance artists such as Mr. Tecas, Miss Jo, Fabricio and Mandela, to name just few.

David is the first male Semba teacher in Ontario trained in Europe and is one of the pioneers of the Kizomba scene in Toronto. In 2014, he founded “Amigos do Semba” the first school in Toronto with the unique purpose of training Semba dancers in the developing Kizomba Toronto scene.
